Marc : Caput 16

The Resurrection of Jesus: A Triumphant Victory

Chapter 16 of the Gospel according to Mark powerfully proclaims the resurrection of Jesus. This victory of Christ transforms our entire existence and our understanding of life. This triumphant text reveals to us the discovery of the empty tomb, the appearances of the Risen One, and the Great Commission entrusted to the disciples. Through these events, we explore major themes such as victory over death, the power of the gospel, and the global mission of the Church.

In Mark 16, Jesus presents himself as the risen and victorious Lord, calling us to meditate on the depth of his resurrection. Together, we invite you to reflect on five biblical passages that illuminate these triumphant themes of this final chapter.

Psalm 16:10

"For you will not leave me in the grave, nor will you let your Holy One rot." This psalm finds its fulfillment in the resurrection of Jesus, as recorded in Mark 16:1-8.

Jonah 1:17

"The Lord made Jonah was swallowed by a large fish, and he remained inside the fish for three days and three nights." Jesus refers to this story as a sign of his death and resurrection in Matthew 12:40, which is fulfilled in the events recounted in Mark 16.

Isaiah 53:10-11

"However, it was the Lord's will to crush him and make him suffer, and although the Lord made his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the Lord's will will prosper in his hand. After the sufferings of his soul, he will see the light and be satisfied ; By his knowledge, my righteous servant will justify many and bear their iniquity." This prophecy is fulfilled in the resurrection and exaltation of Jesus, recounted in Mark 16.

Psalm 110:1

"The Lord said to my Lord, 'Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.'" This psalm is fulfilled in Jesus' ascension, mentioned in Mark 16:19.

Joel 2:28

"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your elders shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions." This prophecy relates to Jesus' promise in Mark 16:17-18 concerning the signs that will follow those who believe, including speaking in new tongues.

May these passages encourage us to deepen our faith and witness to the power of the resurrection in our daily lives. Amen.
