Lévitique : Caput 6

The Priestly Instructions of Leviticus

Leviticus chapter 6 provides additional instructions regarding offerings. It details how the priests should administer the sacrifices, describing the procedures for the continuous burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering. This chapter emphasizes the sanctity of these offerings, priestly responsibilities, and the tending of the fire on the altar.

Leviticus 6 reveals the importance of constant dedication to God's service. We invite you to examine with us five biblical passages that shed light on the role of the priesthood in the mediation between God and man.

Hebrews 13:10-11

"We have an altar from which those who serve in the tabernacle are not permitted to eat. The high priest brings the blood of animals into the Holy of Holies as a sin offering, but their bodies are burned outside the camp."

This verse refers to the sacrificial laws detailed in Leviticus 6, drawing a parallel with Christ's sacrifice.

Matthew 5:23-24

"Therefore, if you are offering your gift before the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift."

Jesus is referring to the offerings mentioned in Leviticus 6, emphasizing the importance of reconciliation before sacrifice.

1 Corinthians 9:13-14

"Do you not know that those who work in the temple eat from the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of what is offered on the altar? In the same way, the Lord commanded those who preach the Gospel to live according to the Gospel."

Paul refers to the provision regarding priests mentioned in Leviticus 6:16-18, applying the principle to ministers of the Gospel.

Malachi 1:6-8

"A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a lord, where is the fear due me," the Lord of hosts asks you, priests who despise my name. But you ask, "How have we despised your name? I bring unclean food to my altar! But you ask, "How have we dishonored you? Thinking the Lord's table contemptible."

The prophet criticizes practices that violate the sacrificial laws established in Leviticus 6, reminding the priests of the sacred nature of the altar.

2 Timothy 1:6

"For this reason I remind you once again to keep alive the flame of the gift of God which is within you by the laying on of my hands."

Paul uses the metaphor of the fire on the altar that never goes out (Leviticus 6:12-13) to encourage Timothy to keep his spiritual gift active.
