Genèse : Caput 6

Genesis Chapter 6: The Flood and Divine Grace

Genesis chapter 6 begins a fundamental narrative: the flood. Why did God decide to judge the earth? This crucial text depicts the increasing human wickedness, God's decision to send the flood, and Noah's choice to be saved, designated as righteous. This chapter introduces major themes such as divine judgment, God's grace, and faithful obedience.

Genesis chapter 6 also provides details on the construction of the ark, a symbol of salvation. Through this account, we are called to reflect on our own lives and our relationship with God. We invite you to consider with us five biblical passages that align with the profound themes of this powerful chapter.

Matthew 24:37-39

"Just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For before the flood, the people lived eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark. And they did not know anything until the flood came and took them all away. So it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."

- In this passage, Jesus compares the days of Noah (Genesis 6) to the period preceding his Second Coming, thus highlighting the lack of preparation spiritual of the people.

Hebrews 11:7

"By faith Noah, being warned of things not yet seen, moved by holy fear, built an ark to save his house. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith."

- This verse interprets Noah's building of the ark as an act of faith, establishing a direct link with the events of Genesis 6.

1 Peter 3:20

"who disobeyed long ago, when God was waiting patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark. Only a few people, eight, were saved by the water."

- Peter evokes God's patience during the building of the ark, mentioned in Genesis 6, linking it to baptism.

2 Peter 2:5

"If he did not spare the ancient world when he brought a flood on an evil world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;"

- Here, Peter refers to Noah as a "preacher of righteousness," expanding on what is said about him in Genesis 6.

Jude 1:6

"And the angels who did not maintain their authority but left their own house, he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains until the judgment of the great day."

- This verse is sometimes interpreted as a reference to the "sons of God" mentioned in Genesis 6:2-4, adding an additional dimension to our understanding of the events of that time.
