Revelation - Chapter 20

Revelation 20.1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. Revelation 20.2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, Revelation 20.3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. Revelation 20.4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. Revelation 20.5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Revelation 20.6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. Revelation 20.7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, Revelation 20.8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. Revelation 20.9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. Revelation 20.10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Revelation 20.11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. Revelation 20.12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Revelation 20.13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. Revelation 20.14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. Revelation 20.15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation : Chapter 20

Revelation 20: The Millennium and the Final Judgment Revelation 20 reveals profound truths about the millennium and the final judgment. What are the pivotal events that conclude human history? This crucial text describes the imprisonment of Satan, the millennial reign of Christ, the final battle, and the judgment before the great white throne. Through these verses, we are confronted with the themes of ultimate victory over evil, resurrection, and eternal judgment. Revelation 20 offers us an illuminating vision of the outcome of redemptive history. Together, let's examine five key biblical passages related to the pivotal events of this eschatological chapter. 1. Daniel 7:9-10

"As I watched, thrones were placed, and an old man sat down. His robe was white as snow; his hair was white as wool. His throne was enveloped in fire, and the wheels of the throne were on fire. A river of fire flowed before him. Thousands of thousands of people served him; millions upon millions stood before him. The judgment seat began, and the books were opened."

This vision of divine judgment evokes the majestic scene of the great white throne described in Revelation 20:11-12.

2. Ezekiel 38:2, 9

"Son of man, set your face against Gog of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him [...] You will come like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the earth, you and all your troops, and a great multitude with you."

This prophecy concerning Gog and Magog is also referenced in Revelation 20:8, emphasizing the final struggle between good and evil.

3. Isaiah 24:21-22

"In that day the Lord will punish the powers of heaven above and the kings of the earth beneath. They will be gathered together like prisoners in a dungeon, locked in prison, and after many days they will be punished."

This prophecy about the binding of evil powers echoes Satan's captivity in Revelation 20:1-3, announcing God's victory.

4. Daniel 12:1-2

"At that time Michael, the great prince who protects his people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not been since the beginning of the nations until that time. But at that time his people, everyone whose name is written in the book, will be set free. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to eternal life, and others to shame and everlasting contempt."

This prophecy about the resurrection and final judgment is closely linked to the events described in Revelation 20:12-15.

5. Psalms 69:28

"Let them be blotted out of the book of life and not included in the register of the righteous."

This verse refers to the book of life, a central element of the final judgment as described in Revelation 20:12, 15, calling each person to reflect on their own name inscribed in this book.

In conclusion, Revelation 20 reminds us of the promise of divine victory, the reality of judgment, and the hope of resurrection. May these truths nourish our faith and our commitment to live according to God's will, while awaiting the glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
