Unwavering Trust in God

Psalm 62, written by David, is a declaration of unwavering trust in God. This powerful text challenges us: why does the psalmist silently wait on God? He affirms that God is the only source of salvation and honor. Through this psalm, we explore the themes of patience, exclusive faith, and the vanity of trusting in riches or human power.

Psalm 62 offers us a transformative perspective on the true security and rest we can find in God. Let's consider together five biblical passages that amplify the fundamental principles of this uplifting psalm.

Isaiah 26:4

"Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord alone, is the Rock forever and ever." This passage reinforces the central theme of Psalm 62 about trusting in God alone.

Jeremiah 17:5-8

"Thus says the Lord: 'Cursed is the man who trusts in man, who makes mortal man his strength, but whose heart turns away from the Lord.'" This text develops the contrast between trusting in God and trusting in man, a theme addressed in Psalm 62.

Matthew 6:19-21

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven..." This passage reflects the theme of Psalm 62:10 on distrust of riches.

1 Timothy 6:17

"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant and not to put their hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in God, who richly provides everything for our satisfaction." This verse echoes the warning in Psalm 62:10 against trusting in riches.

Hebrews 13:8

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." This passage testifies to the immutability of God, a theme implicit in Psalm 62 when it describes God as a rock and a fortress.
