2 Corinthians - Chapter 9

2 Corinthians 9.1 For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you: 2 Corinthians 9.2 For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many. 2 Corinthians 9.3 Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, ye may be ready: 2 Corinthians 9.4 Lest haply if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting. 2 Corinthians 9.5 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof ye had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness. 2 Corinthians 9.6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 2 Corinthians 9.7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9.8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 2 Corinthians 9.9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 2 Corinthians 9.10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) 2 Corinthians 9.11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9.12 For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; 2 Corinthians 9.13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men; 2 Corinthians 9.14 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. 2 Corinthians 9.15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

2 Corinthians : Chapter 9

The Generation of Joy and Generation

In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul delves deeper into the theme of joyful giving in chapter 9. This passage illustrates fundamental principles of generosity, highlighting the necessary preparation for giving as well as the blessings that flow from a generous heart. The chapter highlights essential themes such as spiritual sowing, divine provision, and the impact of giving on worship and fellowship. Furthermore, Paul connects generosity to the grace of God, inviting us to carefully consider the implications of our generosity.

The Principles of Generosity

We invite you to meditate on five biblical passages that shed light on the many principles Paul expounds in this enriching chapter:

Malachi 3:10

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me, says the Lord of hosts, and see if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out so much blessing upon you that you will have nowhere to store it. »

This Old Testament verse aligns perfectly with the principle of generous giving discussed in 2 Corinthians 9.

Luke 6:38

"Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you also." »

This teaching of Jesus reflects the principle of abundance in giving, as mentioned in 2 Corinthians 9:6-8.

Proverbs 22:9

"The generous will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. »

This passage reinforces the idea of the blessing that comes from generosity, a central theme in 2 Corinthians 9.

Acts 4:34-35

“There was no needy person among them. For those who owned land or houses sold their properties, brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet, who distributed it according to each person’s need. »

This account from the early church illustrates the type of generosity Paul encourages in 2 Corinthians 9.

Philippians 4:19

“My God will supply all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. »

This verse complements the promise of divine provision for those who give generously, as mentioned in 2 Corinthians 9:8-11.

As we meditate on these passages, we are encouraged to adopt an attitude of generosity, to fully experience the grace God offers us, and to become instruments of His provision. May our hearts always be ready to give, remembering that every gift, large or small, has the potential to be a blessing to others.
