Sacrifice in the Catholic tradition is an act of redemption and
purification . In Exodus 29, it is said that the blood of the bull is a powerful symbol of
alliance between God and his people, thus recalling the importance of sacrifice to obtain forgiveness. This gesture, by putting blood on the horns of the altar, invites us to reflect on our own
commitment to God and our need for thanks , as also underlines
Hebrews 9:22 . May this ancient rite inspire us to renew our faith and devotion every day.
